Heathcote Botanical Gardens
Heathcote Botanical Gardens is a living museum of plants and as such, is considered an educational and scientific institution. Classes, lectures and workshops on gardening and related horticultural topics, prearranged group tours, weekly garden walks and trips to other gardens are offered throughout the year.
An organic Community Garden and a Children’s Vegetable Garden offer hands-on education and a cure for “nature deficit disorder”. Heathcote Botanical Gardens also includes the largest public tropical bonsai collection in the United States with over 100 trees on display. Large native landscape rocks and benches provide places to rest or meditate.
The garden pays homage to the roots of traditional Japanese garden design, while interpreting it through Florida vernacular landscape and building materials.
